Dave Turner, Commercial Director at Topspeed has recently taken on the role as an Enterprise Advisor with the Careers Enterprise Company.
The Enterprise Adviser Network bridges the gap between education and employers by pairing individual Enterprise Advisers with a school or college to help build a strategic employer engagement plan.
As the lead support at Greenbank Special School, Dave’s role is to help provide guidance to the pupils so that they are prepared for work after they leave full-time education. Dave will be helping with strategic planning and giving industry and careers advice.
In addition, as part of the Cheshire West and Warrington Pledge group, Dave has given Business Training and has taken part in a Dragons Den style event. Commenting on the programme, Dave said “it was fascinating to hear how the young people raised money for their school through the Dragon Den special projects, their abilities and enthusiasm shone through”
Dave has explained his motivation about helping with these projects; “I left school at 19 with two poor grade O’Levels so didn’t go to University but went straight to work. It was not until I was 30 that I felt I should be focussing on a career path and this led to studying for a chemistry degree and working in research and Quality Assurance, and then having studied for an MBA Business degree at Warwick University I moved into management roles. I felt that I had wasted time initially and did not take full advantage of my educational opportunities, so I encouraged my son from an early age to think about this future, he is now a Managing Director of an American Bank.
Now being semi-retired, I have more time available and would like to use my experiences to help young people find their career path”
