Topspeed and the Atlantic Row

Topspeed Couriers is delighted to report on its sponsorship of the Tidewaves team in the 2023/24 Atlantic Row, known as the World’s Toughest Row across the Atlantic.

The team, comprising Louise Cox, Robyn Hart-Winks, and Jordan Cole-Hossain, embarked on this formidable journey from La Gomera in the Canary Islands on Tuesday 12th December 2023, and successfully reached the English Harbour in Antigua on Monday 29th January 2024, completing the challenge in 47 days, 6 hours, and 33 minutes—exceeding expectations by finishing ahead of the predicted 50 days.

Gillian Lockley, Managing Director of Topspeed Couriers, expressed her admiration and support for the Tidewaves team: “We work alongside Louise in her day job, and when she shared her experience following an intensive training weekend last Autumn, we were captivated by the magnitude of the challenge they were about to undertake and were extremely proud to support them in this incredible journey.”

The Tidewaves team, all experienced competitive rowers who met at the University of London, faced immense physical and mental challenges during their voyage, including extreme weather conditions, exhaustion, sickness, dehydration, and hunger. Despite these hurdles, they remained committed to their mission and used this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for three important initiatives: Access Sport, London Youth Rowing, and SportsAid Scotland.

Recently, Louise Cox visited the Topspeed team in Winsford to express her gratitude and presented them with a set of branded oars used in their Atlantic Challenge. Louise remarked, “We couldn’t have completed the World’s Toughest Challenge without the support of our sponsors, and we thank Topspeed for being with us throughout the journey. Though on a particularly tough rowing day in the middle of the Atlantic, teammate Jordan quipped that we were being far from ‘top speed’!”
