Topspeed directly employs over 120 drivers. They are a key part of our business and so it’s incredibly important to us that each one drive their vehicle according to the law, whilst complying with the guidelines required by the classification of the goods they are carrying.
As such we have devised a robust programme for training and support for our drivers. This starts with their induction process when they are provided with specific guidance through our Topspeed Academy. They each have access to a detailed manual to refer to whenever they need to and have a support system in place as backup.
Our drivers are incentivised on their driving performance, with a key focus on safety as opposed to delivery targets. The majority achieve this additional monthly payment and any that regularly don’t meet the requirements, are given access to coaching to help them understand the philosophy behind the guidelines, the reasons why it is important to comply and how they can improve on areas they were struggling with.
We are delighted to report that this has been very positively received by those drivers attending the retraining. The results have meant that not only are they driving better overall but so keeps it outside the disciplinary process, which may have been the next stage otherwise. Additionally, these drivers start to regularly achieve their performance bonuses.
