Usually we are supporting our fleet of Mercedes Citan, Vito & Sprinter vans on the UK roads, but in the name of charity in November we will be helping with the recovery of a Moped from Inverness after its 860 mile journey from Lands End.
Ian Arnold is the man on the Moped and will be raising money for the Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) charity before he heads to Nigeria on a 12 month volunteering project.
His role in Nigeria will involve working closely with maize and soya bean farmers to try and improve their income potential. Currently the average Nigerian farmer will only earn $0.83 per day, Ian has a mountain to climb, as poverty is defined by the UN as earning less than $1.25.
His choice of vehicle on the UK trek, is a nod to Nigeria as the Honda Cub is the most common mode of transport there. Ian’s three day journey will take place in mid-November on a C90 and will involve being in the saddle for at least 12-14 hours per day as he completes the non-motorway route at a top speed of 50mph.
Ian will be completing the journey unsupported and will therefore be responsible for any repairs as he goes along, though has the assurance of the fourth emergency service for any … ermm emergencies.
Ian is looking to raise £1,500 with his 3 day Moped Extravaganza and donations can be made through his JustGiving page. He is planning, when not working, to learning how to cook Nigerian food as well as writing a blog to record his year-long challenge. We will add a link to this when available.
