Topspeed Couriers Leading the Way in Electric Fleet Transition

Stephen Clegg Topspeed in conversation with Steven Glicher of Harts Accountants

In a recent podcast hosted by Harts Accountants, Steven Glicher sat down with Stephen Clegg, the founder of Topspeed Couriers, to discuss the company’s journey and their commitment to sustainability.

Established in 1985, Topspeed Couriers started as a vision when Stephen Clegg left his job in a shop with a determination to create something of his own. Initially supported by the Enterprise Allowance Scheme, Stephen embarked on a journey that led to the growth of Topspeed Couriers into a significant player in the industry.

With over 160 employees today, Topspeed Couriers’ growth has been primarily organic, driven by a relentless focus on marketing, persistence, and, as Stephen puts it, “a lot of good luck.”

One of the unique aspects of Topspeed Couriers is their specialisation in handling dangerous goods and specialised cargo. Stephen attributes this success to their unique business model, which emphasises control over operations and investments in technology and training.

The conversation also delved into Topspeed Couriers’ ambitious plans to transition to an emissions-free fleet by 2027. With 59 electric vehicles already in their fleet, Stephen envisions a future where the entire fleet is powered by electricity.

Addressing common concerns about electric vehicles, Stephen highlighted the benefits of transitioning away from diesel and petrol, emphasising the simplicity of maintenance and the improved working conditions for drivers.

Looking ahead, Topspeed Couriers remains committed to sustainability and innovation, continuously striving to lead the way in the courier industry.
